4th Grade ESO TERM PROJECT 1st Term
Reading Programme: The Picture of Dorian Gray, by
Oscar Wilde.
Through the reading of the novel The
Picture of Dorian Gray , written by the famous Irish author Oscar Wilde, we
are taking part in the Reading
Programme, a wonderful initiative which aims to promote reading skills and
reading habits in our students.
This plan has been designed to
help our students become more aware of the benefits of reading:
1.- It improves concentration.
2.- It teaches our students about
the world around us.
3.- It builds a store of
“background knowledge”.
4.- It improves our students´
vocabulary and leads them to more highly-developed language skills such as how
to structure sentences and how to use words and language effectively.
5.- It expands their imagination.
6.- It helps students develop
empathy: They will sympathise with the characters in the story, so they will
feel what the characters are feeling.
7.- It is a great form of entertainment!
Reading will also help our
students develop and enhance their critical thinking through dialogue and
reflection by leading them to discuss
topics such as friendship, good
and evil, youth, beauty, bad influences and about what they think is really
important in life.
